Cartoons Comics & Toons

Wolverine (a.k.a.Logan, né James Howlett) is a fictional character, a Marvel Comics superhero and member of both the X-Men and another Marvel superhero team, the Avengers. He first appeared on the last page of The Incredible Hulk #180 (Oct. 1974), with his formal introduction in the following issue (#181, Nov. 1974). In the 1980s and 1990s, Wolverine rose to become one of Marvel's most popular characters. Wolverine is also significant for being (debatably) the only comic book superhero created after the mid-1960s to make a real impact as a major character with adequate ongoing popularity over the decades to grant him mainstream cultural recognition outside of comic-reading circles. Wolverine's pop-culture recognisability amongst laypeople is almost equivalent to that of Spider-Man and other much older characters such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, something that cannot be said of any other superhero created after the early years of Marvel.

The team battles Magneto (Ian McKellen), who created a machine that turned humans into mutants and planned to affect a congregation of world leaders. His Brotherhood of Mutants included Mystique (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos), Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) and Toad (Ray Park) The film gathered good reviews, approval from fans, and earned $157.3 million at the box office, helping usher in a new era of Marvel movies including 2002's Spider-Man and 2003's Daredevil and Hulk.
